Questions about ear training
Why train my ear before my pronunciation?
Because you can’t reliably produce a difference you can’t hear. If two sounds are one category in your head, you’ll say them the same way. Listening drills split the category first, so speaking practice has something to aim for.
Do ear training drills use the microphone?
No. They are listening only — you answer by tapping, so they work anywhere, even where you can’t speak out loud.
Which sounds does it train?
The contrasts that matter for the language you are learning — think / sink or right / light in English, vu / vous in French, the four tones in Mandarin, and so on. Each language’s pronunciation guide lists them.
