The rolled RR vs the single R
- perro / pero
- carro / caro
- cerro / cero
A single R is one quick tap of the tongue; RR is a roll. Skip the roll and perro (dog) becomes pero (but).
L vs the single R
- pelo / pero
- hola / hora
- mal / mar
For speakers who blend R and L, pelo (hair) and pero (but) collapse into one word. The R is a flick of the tongue, the L stays put.
N vs Ñ
- cana / caña
- sonar / soñar
- pena / peña
Ñ is its own sound, made with the middle of the tongue against the palate. Miss it and caña turns into cana.
B vs P
- beso / peso
- bala / pala
- boca / poca
Spanish P has no puff of air, and B is often softer than learners expect — so beso (kiss) and peso (weight) drift together.
